The ejection of T Tauri stars from molecular clouds and the fate of circumstellar discs

چکیده
We investigate the evolution of circumstellar discs around T Tauri stars that are ejected from small stellar clusters within molecular clouds. In particular, we study how the interaction that leads to ejection may hasten the transition between Classical and Weak-lined T Tauri status. In our models, ejections of T Tauri stars at velocities of 3-10 km/s truncate the accretion disc at radii between 1 and 10 a.u., reducing the viscous evolution time of the disc so that accretion rapidly ceases. The observational appearance of the resulting systems is then dependent on the presence or absence of a stellar magnetic field. For non-magnetic stars we find that a near-infra red excess should persist due to reprocessing of stellar radiation, but that this is greatly diminished for magnetic T Tauri stars by the presence of a magnetosphere extending to corotation. In either case, there is a period when ejected stars should appear as nonaccreting systems with detectable circumstellar material at wavelengths of 5 microns and beyond. We discuss the implications of these results for models in which ejected stars contribute to the halo of pre-main-sequence objects discovered from ROSAT observations of star forming regions and the All-Sky Survey.

Chandra Studies of Star Forming Regions
When observed with sufficiently high spatial resolution and sensitivity, star formation regions are unusually complex X-ray sources. Low-mass protostars and T Tauri stars, Herbig Ae/Be stars, OB and Wolf-Rayet stars are seen at levels 28 ≤ logLx ≤ 34 erg/s. Highamplitude variability from magnetic reconnection flares are often present. From past star formation episodes, supernova remnants and X-...
متن کامل2118 association : new T Tauri stars in high - latitude molecular clouds
We identified new pre-main sequence stars in the region of high-latitude molecular clouds associated with the reflection nebula IC 2118, around l ∼ 208◦ and b ∼ −27◦. The stars were selected as T Tauri candidates in objective prism plates obtained with the Schmidt telescope of Konkoly Observatory. Results of spectroscopic follow-up observations, carried out with the FLAIR spectrograph installed...
متن کاملNear-infrared Coronagraphic Imaging of the Circumstellar Disk around Tw Hydrae
We present ground-based near-infrared (H-band) imaging of the circumstellar disk around the nearby classical T Tauri star TW Hydrae. The scattered light image shows a face-on disk with radius 4 arcseconds (corresponding to 225 AU) and a morphology which agrees with recent images from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Array. The best fit power-law for the disk’s radial surface bright...
متن کاملDiscovery of Seven T Tauri Stars and a Brown Dwarf Candidate in the Nearby Tw Hydrae Association
We report the discovery of five T Tauri star systems, two of which are resolved binaries, in the vicinity of the nearest known region of recent star formation: the TW Hydrae Association. The newly discovered systems display the same signatures of youth (namely high X-ray flux, large Li abundance, and strong chromospheric activity) and the same proper motion as the original five members. These s...
متن کاملObservational evidence for dust growth in proto-planetary discs
The dust in the interstellar medium, that provides the material for forming stars and circumstellar discs as a natural by-product is known to have submicron sizes. As these discs are the sites of planet formation, those small grains are predicted to grow to larger entities when the stars are still young. I will review evidence for the first steps in grain growth in proto-planetary discs around ...
